We are still continuing with our poetry unit, but we're adding a twist! Now that we have all written at least a poem or two, we are going to use drama to act them out! You are all encouraged to bring props that you think might help describe your poem. You will be broken into groups of 3 or 4 and then be asked to perform for the class.
We wrapped up our read alouds this week with Joel, Paul, Madison, Rachel, John, Kayla and Parker - thank you for sharing your favorite books with the class, great job!
Just a little sneak peek of what is to come next week, check out the video below :)

Week Four - You're a Poet and Didn't Even Know It!
This week we started our poetry unit by discussing the properties of a poem and a few of the different kinds (narrative, haikus, free verse, concrete, etc). For homework you are to complete a short poem in a form you haven't written in yet. For example, if you wrote a haiku in class yesterday, pick a different one!
If you are needing some extra help, or just a place to find some ideas, check out the website below!

See you Monday!
Also, I would like to thank Joe, Chris, Hannah, Lindsay and Nicole for their wonderful choice of books during their read alouds!

Week Three is all About Me!
This week was all about beginning our individual short stories that will eventually be published into our class book of short stories! We've just finished the first step called prewriting, which hopefully you remember involves brainstorming and research - what about yourself do you want to include in your short story? The next step is drafting, getting your ideas onto paper and starting to form them into a rough draft, so make sure that you bring at least some ideas, jot notes, sentences, etc, to LA on Monday (if you don't already have them done). We want everyone to have something to work on.
After our stories are finished, we will be using a neat website called 'bomomo' to make covers for them (which will also be published in our book)!
I have posted the link if you would like to take a look and play around with it - you can make some pretty neat designs!

Another excellent round of read alouds this week: Thanks to Matthew, Mike, Sally, Johnny, Olivia, Scott & Sophie for your hard work!

Week Two, Let's Learn Something New!
This week we worked on journal writing, and discussed the freedom you have when it comes to your journal! In keeping with this theme, please complete a journal entry for homework this weekend. Bring them Monday with you, and ready to share (if you want!)
A few ideas might be...
- 5 things I want to do in my lifetime..
- This weekend, I...
- My favorite trip..
- Describe a dream that you had, and provide as many details as possible.
- ... or come up with your own.
Just a little shout out to our read aloud presenters this week: Shaun, Alex, Adrian, Lauren and Stephanie - well done, excellent choice of books to show the class!

Week One and We're Having Some Fun!
I hope everyone had a good first week of class! I'd recommend you start thinking about books for your read alouds and sign up as soon as possible. It can include a picture book, chapter book, fiction, non-fiction, etc - anything that you want to share with the class! The sheet will be posted outside my door Monday morning for you to sign up with your book and preferred date to present.
Your weekend homework assignment:
Remember the wiki exercise we discussed in class today? I've posted a link to a website called wikidot where you need to add a sentence to the last recent post in order to make our own adventure story. If you are not able to access a computer this weekend, don't stress, there will be time Monday morning to add your sentence. :)
Let's see what kind of story we can create!

Welcome to Language Arts!
I hope you are all excited for your first day of Language Arts! Below is a picture of the classroom layout and the bulletin board you'll see when you arrive.
I look forward to meeting you all! :)
